For hardness testing, we use the ultrasonic method, more specifically contact ultrasonic impedance. It consists of introducing ultrasounds into the material and measuring changes in their impedance, which is directly related to the hardness of the material. Compared to traditional methods (e.g. Vickers, Brinell), this method is faster and less invasive, allowing non-destructive hardness testing. We can test the hardness of steel as well as softer metals. In addition, we are not restricted by the irregular shapes of the materials tested.
